As the 2017 Pitch Wars agent round approaches a number of mentees are getting contemplative, so I thought I'd join in ;~).
I think I didn't even hear about Pitch Wars until maybe 2016 (and paid no attention to it), and come this summer, I had contemplated subbing but wasn't sure if I should, even right up until I hit the send button. I guess I thought of it as unlikely to help me get an agent, which is all I really thought Pitch Wars was about. Even when I got in, I still thought of it as solely another approach to getting an agent. But after working with my mentor for a while and hanging out with the other mentees on our super-secret closed Facebook group, I realized all of a sudden that I had found my people! And rather than having to gather them in one by one on Twitter or whatever other social media platform (which, being a typical introverted writer, I suck at doing), I got them handed to me all at once in one location! So, as the agent round approaches and I anticipate getting zero requests (because most mentees think that's what's going to happen to them, or maybe they'll get a few, but get nowhere after that), I'm content with the knowledge that I've found an awesomely helpful group of fellow writers who will be there for me whenever I have a question, need some feedback, or need to vent. I'm really grateful for that, especially since just a few months ago I didn't even realize it was something that was missing from my writer life. So cheers to all my fellow 2017 Pitch Wars mentees and thanks for everything--I'm looking forward to our shared journey!
